I have a family Ford that has come to my use. Bad part it will not start. It?ll cycle but won?t fire at all. Tractor has 270 hours on it.

The last time it was ran was October 18 and then parked. For some unknown reason my uncle thought injector pump was bad so he had it checked but it was good. He put it back on and since has not started. He tried to start it with starting fluid but it didn?t even try to run.

Ive bleed the fuel lines all the way to the injectors but still won?t run and only cranks. I?ve not taken The injectors our to see if their spraying.

I?ve also got a manual for the tractor but the fuel pump runs off the cam, so could not time it.

Any ideas?

There's no way the injection pump timing is off far enough that it won't start. That model of pump uses shims for timing, and even if the shim(s) were lost, it would still run.

That?s what I have read. I?m going to change out the fuel, but not sure why it won?t run. Any safety switches you know of on the motor. I believe it might be a Yanmar.

Is it possible the pump is 360 degrees out of time so the fuel is being injected at the end of the exhaust stroke? I saw that happen on an Oliver 1650.

Most Ford small diesels were built by Shibaura, and used the inline PFR injection pumps similar to Yanmar and Kubota. I'm with Bern, pump won't be out of time UNLESS the cam inside the engine has failed somehow..

Don?t smell like gas, but I?m going to drain tank and put fresh fuel in it. Motor has never been disassembled so should be good on timing.

Does that engine have the glow plugs to help it start by turning the key ccw for 10 or 15 seconds before starting. My 1710 starts much better after using that, before I knew about that it would crank and crank before starting I soon learned about it.

If white smoke is coming out then at least some fuel is getting to the cylinders. I would do a compression check next.
