Anyone else have this gas tank vs top hose issue, 900 Ford?

My 961 Ford gas tank rusted out so I bought a new one. The stock mounting location bolts up BUT the tank seam around the middle cuts into the top radiator hose. Do I have to change the hose?
Is this common? Is there a top hose that takes off at a down angle? Thanks, Paul

I'm unfamiliar with this (yet another) problem with aftermarket parts.

If the interference is not too severe, perhaps you can place a stainless steel hose clamp around the hose at the interference point to protect it from the tank seam.

I'll have to do that if I can't get a hose to turn down as soon as it clears the top radiator pipe. I was nervous about breaking the seam/seal by bending it. It is an import replacement but looks like fairly good quality. Thanks, Paul

It could be that your radiator is an aftermarket "will fit" I am pretty sure that the pipe that comes out the top of the radiator on my 961 comes out at a pretty steep down angle.

Yes the radiator is another generic fit from the mid 90s, link_disallowed in Louisana. It has worked all these years but a tight fit now with the new tank trying to get in there.

You can raise your tank a tad with spacers. Your bottom radiator rubber mounts arent too thick are they? I had a 641 that the hood latches were very close to the top of the radiator and I raised the hood a little to fix.

The front tank round donut gasket is squashed a bit so I'll look for a thicker one there, might be enough, thanks

Replacing the worn out spacers under the fuel tank and radiator mounts was one of the best things I ever did. Had to pull the radiator for rodding out and re-soldering. After I replaced all the spacers and reassembling, no more mysterious squeaking, the hood latches fit properly again and hoses all lined up properly.

I also have a old Chev pickup. Drove me nuts with binding brake and clutch pedals and squeaking and groaning sounds. Finally realized that the cab had settled down directly on the frame and nothing lined up any more. $12 cab mount spacer kit, and life was grand.

Bingo.

I replace the rubber mounting pads beneath the radiator on my Ford tractors every time that I remove the radiators.

I keep a couple of new sets on hand.
