1970 Ford 4000 Power Steering Pump Replacement/Confusion

Ok in a nutshell,I have a pump that has groves cut into the casting where the pump gears operate. Not to be confused with the drive gear which the cam gear turns.I read on a previous post that Bern said if the bushings the gears ride on are worn, pretty much game over for the pump.I have grooves in the casting,so I don't see any CPR for this pump. Now this setup is the factory power steering, not assist. The filter was so badly clogged the PO stuck a screw driver or something threw the filter to keep it flowing. Now I can't seem to see the trees for the forest on this,I just need a pump.It has C7NN3k514D and its a Plessy pump looks like Made in Britain.I looked can't find a pump with this exact part number.I'm thinking the D on the end would be what generation this pump was manufactured in.

The numbers on the pump are not the part number.

If your tractor had the remote reservoir under the hood it takes pump # C7NN3A674C
If it has the has the reservoir on the pump you need pump # E6NN3K514CA

I had the same pump on my 74 5000, rebuilt it twice but it did not last 6 months. I finally found a ? middle of the road? pump on Amazon that got good
revues(250.00). It was a little different but it works fine. The pump replacement at CMH is 1100.00, so I thought I would try this one.
Good luck,
Ed

Thanks for the replies.I ordered the 134.00 dollar pump on ebay.I was just trying to figure out the variations of pumps used. Some are rated for higher and lower pressures.I have a 1974 ford 2000 and the pump looks identical to the pump on the 4000.

Yes, all of those pumps with the integrated reservoir are basically the same. Main difference is pressure rating, which is set by adding or removing shims in the relief valve. Most of them sold these days are set for 1100 psi as most tractors after about 1983 used an 1100 psi pump. The 2000/3000/2600/3600 series used the 650 psi pump, as did the 3/31/70 and earlier 4000. When they changed the 4000 to have the cylinder integrated inside the steering column on 4/1/70, they upped the psi on the pump to 850 psi. So if your 4000 has the external cylinder on the left side it should use a 650 psi pump, and if the cylinder is integrated into the steering column it should use the 850 psi pump. You can change the relief pressure setting by adding or removing shims.
