replacing rear main seal 3 cyl 4400

I removed the rear engine seal and there was another black plastic ring same size but with a flange behind it .So looking at the blow-up on the manual online ...I dont see 2 pieces.?? is there 2 pieces to the seal ...it doesn't look like it was made as just 1 piece and broke off into 2 ? anyone know something about this? thanks

I've never seen a second seal or other component in that location.
Are you sure it's plastic?
Can you remove it by hand?
If both answers are yes then discard it and install the new seal.

i have seen people install a variety of things with the seal to act as a spacer to change the location of the sealing surface if the crank has a wear mark on
it. it just puts the sealing lip in a different place on the crank.
