Ford 4500 TLB Clutch problems

Hi, I have a Ford 4500 TLB, Sept '69 that has a 13" & 15 spline clutch. Trying to put a new clutch & pressure plate in it & can't get the clutch to disengage. Adjusted everything & now adj. free travel out & still can't get clutch to disengage. 4 shims about .0100 thick between flywheel & pressure plate.
Have tried everything & can't get to work. Apart & together, apart & together several times!!
Thoughts? Will ck back later.

Pretty simple install, I replaced the clutch in my 4500 a couple years ago.
Are you sure you don't have the clutch disc flipped over backwards.

I have a few min to ask more questions now.
I had this thing apart & changed engines about 3 yr ago, reinstalled orginal clutch disc & orginal clutch cover(pressure plate)
& everything worked great till recently when the disc center came apart. I have a new clutch kit(new disc & pressure plate) that
I've installed. Clutch won't release!!

I've adjusted the clutch peddle both ways.( From having approx 2 1/2" free travel all way to no free travel) Still won't
release.
I've had it back together with the old pressure plate & new disc, together with new pressure plate & new disc, together with
both pressure plates & have turned disc both ways (toward engine/toward tran) with both pressure plates. Still no release.

Me & the local Ford/Newholland mechanics come here today ck everything. Absolutely NO wear on throw-out bearing forks or
anything else. The flywheel was OK & I did not have it resurfaced, only used some ScotchBrite.
This thing uses .0100 shims between flywheel & pressure plate. Yesterday I even tried putting this thing together with
additional 3/8" washers (also .0100") to give it a total of .0200" worth of shims hoping this would give both pressure plates
enough close clearance to throw-out bearing to engage more, to release the disc. Didn't help.

Only thing we can think of is that even though this is a new pre adjusted pressure plate, somehow it isn't adjusted properly.
The old pressure plate looks great, yet we can tell it is weaker than the new pressure plate.
I've also used 6 bolts tight when I bolted engine to bell-housing to make sure there was no give there to make sure it should
work. Install starter & turn engine over with in gear & peddle pressed each time, each combination, & It still won't release.
I'm open to ANY IDEAS!!! I feel I'm close but not quiet there for some reason.

This might be some help. In the process of working on the clutch did you ever pull the shaft out of the side of the bell housing? That holds the release fork for the throw out bearing assy. The fork is clamped on to the shaft..and they slide off real easy easy and if you took it off and put it on backwards on the shaft by accident , then because it has a offset it will either make the throw out bearing not push it out far enough or too far. I think I had that problem one time before on a tractor...could not get my clutch adjustment .

Hi everyone, still can"t get this new clutch & pressure plate to disengage. In Redmond, Or..."69 Ford 4500 TLB, 13" 1" 15 spline
Clutch disc. Cross shaft in bellhousing uses a "C" shaped return spring. The cross shaft design is part of the throw-out bearing
release/engage stuff. We have cked EVERYTHING for wear/slop from the throw-out bearing all way back to clutch peddle.....not
enough to matter.

I have done EVERYTHING....adding orginal .100 shims, adding extra shims, taking shims out, installing disc both directions,
adjusting peddle linkage, etc, etc. Still can"t get the clutch to release!!! We have talked, called, visited everyone we can find
for answers....Local Ford/NewHolland mechanics, etc, etc. Still no solution.

Looking for any thoughts/ideas. I"m getting desperate!

well - where did you get the clutch/pressure plate?

perhaps the clutch disk is so thick so as not to allow the pressure plate to disengage (improper clutch disk) - is there a figure for disk thickness in the manual under 'specifications'?

or the pressure plate is defective/improperly set up and moving the fingers does not release the spring tension on the plate?

I'd be talking to whoever you purchased the clutch from -
