You can’t fix stupid!!

I got some good help in this forum a year ago or more on my restoration of a Ford 4000. Identifying the exact model and such. I have been proceeding as time permits. Did a complete overhaul of motor and just got it running. I was then going to put together all the front end. I was incredibly surprised and disappointed that my complete front axle has been stolen. It must have happened a full year ago during disassemble. I didn’t think I left anything outside the shop. But I must have. Anyway I just discovered this yesterday and I am at a loss what to do. Last year I didn’t have any luck finding a 4000 being parted out. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I also would be interested in some other items like the air cleaner, shields and such. Thanks to all you might read this.

Haven’t pulled the trigger on my axle yet. Still looking. My free time has been spent trying to get the rebuilt motor running smooth. Starts but very rough and lots of smoke. Has to be a timing issue, but can’t seem to get it right. Have had the diesel pump rebuilt and the injectors reconditioned.

Yes, but that looks like it is just he bolster, radius rods and axle center section. The two outer axle/spindle/hub assemblies would still be needed.

Went to see the lady with the 8N. She didn’t want to sell just the axle (understandable) but needed $1100 to part with the complete tractor. That plus the freight to go get it. I think I shall keep looking. Her grandkids like to play on it. I can relate to her. I have all sorts of stuff I can’t part with.

To be honest, I've never tried it. I was trying to clarify the models.

The parts manual lists the center part of the axle with the same part
number, so it might work.Seems like the pin diameter might be different.

I know the bolsters and center pins are different but you said you
still have your bolster. If you're able to measure it, it might be worth looking at.

The outer sections of the axles, spindles, hubs, etc. where different.

You could use the 8N ones. Rims would interchange.

The axle sizes where different though, so keep the hubs with the

axle that they came on.

I don’t understand all the numbers and letters on Larry’s post. But I was looking on external link site. They showed the same front axle number for 8N, 600, 800, 2000 & 4000. 1947 thru 1964. If that is to be believed shouldn’t that give me some confidence they should all be the same? Maybe that was what Larry was trying to tell me?

But it's not a 2000 Larry, it's an 8N. Flat head engine.

A little bit of homework on the NH parts web would tell you that there were only 4 different front axles built from '53 to '64. One was for the NAA. A second was for the LCG. The third and fourth make no distinction between any of the other all purpose tractors from the 00 series through the 01 series and on into the early 000 series. The only difference in these latter two was that one was standard duty and the other heavy duty.

So yes, the 2000 would fit the 4000, provided it didn't want the opposite duty.

I am going back to measure things up. I shall look for the serial number to verify the model. I would expect the axles would be a different size but we shall see. Thanks

Looks to me to be a late model 8N painted blue.

Found what I believe might be a Ford 2000. Exactly the same style of axle. I just need to find out if it is the same size or if they downsized it for the 2000. Also the lady that owns it is unsure she wants to sell. But first things first need to determine if it will fit.
Also I was talking to a guy with a Fordson Major. Different style front axle but he has the hydraulic block for the remote. Anybody know if it would fit on my 4000? I shall attach a couple photos of what I believe is a 2000. If anyone can verify.

I don't know if these parts from this tractor will swap, but from what the add says, the tractor is a Ford 800 series, plus you get more parts. I do not know this guy.

Thanks for that tip. Looks like Alexander’s has what I would need. $500 or so. Parts seem new. I shall phone them tmrw and see if they have used parts.

Missing three things:

- front centre axle

- front axle knee LH

- front axle knee RH

Try Alexander's Tractors in Texas if your "West" is anywhere near there.

So what all do you need, center section, drops, spindles, hubs, any steering linkage?

West? I'm in Ky, anything west of the Mississippi is west.

Not completely sure but I'd thing front axle parts of a 801 series would fit your 4000.

well finding one would be a good start. Then I would need to work on freight. I am not in any particular hurry. So a person never knows what might work out freight wise.

Do you still have the bolster or do you need that also?

I don't know how it would compare, may not work at all, but I've got one I just took off my '66 3000 with P/S in Middle Tennessee.
