5000 Ford aftermarket power steering

I am new here so please don't give me too much crap about my first post.
I have a 71 5000 with hydraulic assist steering that was way past its prime. So I decided to go with an aftermarket steering setup. I changed the arm that goes on top of the driver side spindle, I gutted all of the factory parts and installed the new. My steering box turns clockwise when the wheel is turned right. That is a problem. It needs to turn counter clockwise to move the wheels right. I ordered a manual steering box for a 5000. I thought that would do the trick but it is the same. Has anyone run in to this problem before? I need some advice. I am about to give up.

I know you said never mind but...
I first thought of the same thing when I read this post.
Then I seem to remember that a 4000 box won't bolt onto a 5000 because the hole in the top of the trans. where the steering box bolts on is smaller on a 5000 than on a 4000.
Is that correct?
Is that your reason for the nevermind?
I also wonder if the steering column on a 5000 is taller on a 5000 too.

Thanks for all the input. I have been doing some reading and I'm planning on taking the shaft and worm gear out of it tomorrow. I hope I can change the worm gear to the opposite twist. If I'm reading it right that would change the direction.

Some of the 4000 industrials used that
same under the radiator PS system.
They reversed the worm gear from the 4000
ag models.
If you have access to the equipment to
manufacture a worm gear you could probably
modify what you have.
I'm wondering if you got the right kit.
They did make two different PS systems for
a 5000.
The goofy one under the rad and a newer
integral type where all the power is done
inside the steering column.
Got a link or website to the unit you
bought?

There are directional differences in the 3 cylinder single drop steering boxes based on the model but the specifics escape me right now. Obviously they would not apply to the 5000.

The manual steering box you received is not the correct one.
The steering boxes for the early 5000's where all manual boxes with the power steering unit in the front axle bolster.
The steering box is reversed on the ones for factory power steering.
You need a manual steering box # D7NN3503A for a 5000, 5600 or 6600 tractor to get the correct rotation.
The aftermarket kits are to convert factory manual steering to power assist, not for converting factory power steering to aftermarket.
There was a kit to convert factory power steering over to hydrostatic steering but i'm not finding it at the moment. This is the conversion I wanted to put on my 5000 but the cost was a lot higher, it would be worth the price in my opinion.

You're right. I am converting mine to manual so I can use the aftermarket kit. It was cheaper than any other way I saw. Hopefully I can change the worm gear in mine and use it

ran across the same on a 5900... the manual box turned one way and went to the outer spindle. The power box was designed for the pivot in the center bolster and this reversed the steering.... So I ended up putting the pivot in the bolster.

For kicks I tried to drive the 5900 with the reverse box and muscle memory won out and I always went the wrong way.

I appreciate it but I think I found a shaft for my original box. A friend knows someone with a junker and I can get it for free. Hell if the box fits I'll just change it out and send the new one back. It's going back either way, I don't need 2 of the same ones. I can't wait to get my tractor going again. I live in the Florida panhandle and I am still cleaning up from the hurricane. I have 30 acres of pine and hardwood trees. Let me rephrase that, I had 30 acres of trees, now I have trees all over the ground. I got a lot done before my 5000 started giving me trouble but still have a long way to go.
