This one's going to need a bit of work, but I've been looking
for one for a while now, so I bought it. 1958 (I think) 1841.
Good 16.9 x 24 rears, full set of pie weights, Sherman reverser,
Ford loader with no cracks or welds anywhere that I could find.
Came with a replacement engine and spare front axle to boot.
Good thing, because it's going to need that engine.

Nice - I've always liked the appearance of the industrials - I've got a 960 with a block with a hole in a similar position - the pieces were welded back and altho the area seeps just a little bit the engine runs fine - all done before I got it -

I hope you'll post some pictures as you work on it -

Yep, no cables Jerry. Replacement front axle has a rebuilt cylinder
and new hoses. The current front end has one sloppy king pin.
Other than that, it looks good too.
I have to take it off to replace the engine anyway so I'll swap them.
Won't happen until summer though. Getting that loader frame off
is going to be quite a bit of work I think. I've never done an engine
swap in an industrial, so it will be a learning experience.

It was an interesting day Larry. The driveway up out of where that
tractor was, to get to the shop to load the replacement engine, was
a winding, uphill drive. I didn't get going fast enough to make it up
the hill the first time. I thought I had enough weight to make it
work without going too fast and sliding off one of the curves.

2018 F250 with four wheel disk brakes, 14K trailer with brakes on
all four wheels, all 8 wheels locked up and still sliding backwards,
back down that hill. Tractor/loader/bucket/pie weights/16.9 x 24
loaded tires/spare front end all loaded on the trailer already.
What's that? 15K pounds or so?

Nothing I could do but let off the brakes and steer the trailer back
down the hill to get a better running start. It worked out fine.
I think I twisted that tail hard enough. Thank goodness for good mirrors!

I have two HD Industrials one Elenco 4x4 and the other two
wheel drive, I?m always impressed with the lifting capabilities
of these tractors. Both of mine were cable steer which I had to
change out. Yours looks like a great machine and a plus to
find with a nice set of 24? wheel weights and already has the
drag link steering. I?ll try to post a picture of the Industrial I
picked up last April. Good luck with your project.

Nice find Royse. Appears to be an 1841 with later 4000 HD steering box. The sherman handle on the 1841 would have been the dogleg style but the dogleg handle hit the
later 4000 steering arm so they changed to the straight handle, as shown on my 4000 HD. Appears they just hack off part of the dogleg handle and added a gear shift off a
riding mower. The wheel weights appear to be the heavy weight lip style for the rim. If you take them off would be curious to see if there's a W8 on the back. While you
have the engine out check for cracks at the bend in the frame. Easier to get a good weld on the inside with engine out. Good luck with the new project.

Nice, I think you will be happy with it. Seems like it was well taken care of, the hole in the block might have saved this machine from becoming all busted up. I have one of those air cooled engines too!
Looks like it might be still wearing its? original paint,I like that color combination. Not too common to find one that is not all busted and welded up. The loader and backhoes on these machines were
overpowered and don?t know stop. I have found that they like to crack right at that bend on the frame where the loader mounts. It?s good to checked them out real well to catch the small cracks before they
become big cracks. I have a couple of them now, okay more like a few. It's an addiction, the wife has me in a recovery program now, we meet every other Wednesday at 8. There is nothing like the high of a
freshly bought tractor! It has been about a year since I bought my last one ?.

Kirk-NJ,

Do you think it could possibly be a reverser that when they changed out the steering box they made do with a welded on handle? Maybe the linkage was missing or damaged.

Here?s a picture of an 1821 late 1958 Gas with the Sherman combo..

And an a 1821 early Diesel with the Sherman Reverser

This is an 1841 later diesel with the shifter handle.

Yes might also be a reverser, anything is possible. Here's one made up for my 8n cause it hit the mounting plate for the one arm loader. I've seen busted handles get welded up in all kinds of positions.
