Ford 3000 lift piston nylon backer ring

Ordered the gaskets and o rings to overhaul the lift cover and piston. The nylon ring that goes behind the o ring is too big for the piston. Is this part supposed to be trimmed to fit or do I need a different backer ring?

It is either stretched or the wrong part. Put a large hose clamp or piston ring compressor around it if it is slightly oversized and compress it in the groove. Soaking the piston in hot water before shrinking it may help. Hot water before assembly lets it stretch and be more likely to return to the original size.

The nylon ring is too long. The ends overlap about 1/4" in the groove.

If the ends are angle cut, that is normal. If the ends are square cut, you got the wrong part.

What's the diameter of the cylinder? I have a larger one and O-ring left from when I did my 2000. The kit had extra parts to cover different models. Email me and Ill check them.
