Flex-O-Hitch, 201 or J?

So, do I have a 201 or a J?

Here are a couple more pics. It's a 10' model and appears to have original red paint. I think this makes it a pre-1964? Hope these are like Winchester rifles and the pre-'64 models are more valuable!

It also has the "clam shell" bearings/boxers.

Can anyone direct me to a site where I may reference the serial # to pinpoint the year of manufacture?

Thanks!

I don't know for sure, but looking at the parts pages for a 201 disc harrow, it looks like the fact that it has the scrapers makes it a "J" series 201. Yours do look like what the parts pages call the "old style" bearings, but it doesn't list a changeover date from the old style to the newer style, and no, I don't know of any references for serial numbers/years for those harrows. I'm betting that the only thing that would make one more valuable than another would be condition, as most folks wanting to buy one are planning to work them.

I just replied to the same post on tractor talk, but others here
might also be interested:

Go to Google and search for "Ford Series-J and 201 Disc Harrow.pdf".
Download and read the pdf - should help you decide which you have.

I'm no authority but think a type J would
harken back to the old Dearborn system of
lettered disc models. They had type B, D,
E, F, G, etc.
My guess is yours is an early one from
when they were transitioning away from
Dearborn to Ford implements and from
letters to numbers. Maybe 1955-57?
The Flex O Hitch was a successful model
and Ford made them for quite a few years -
probably into the 1970s
I have a 201.
It is a newer, blue one. It didn't have a
metal tag, just a vinyl one stuck to the
back of the frame that said 201.
It has the later sealed ball bearings.
I have an original owners/parts manual for
a "201 Flex O Hitch" that shows both types
of bearings.
Mine was a 10' (8 discs per gang) but I
cut it down to 8' (6 discs/gang) and quasi
restored it - sandblast, paint, a couple
new bearings etc.
They are not a real heavy disc but work
good and are a nice implement to hook to
your old Ford tractor.
I can't quite see how many discs/axle
yours has. Is it 7?

I was only joking, as I plan to work with this one also. I received the disk-harrow and a Dearborn 10-156 plow as "throw-ins" w/ my tractor purchase this past October.

I think that's the PDF I read from the n tractor club website, and, for my feeble mind, it seemed inconclusive. You could have this on a "J" but some 201 had it also. This size bolt is on a...unless it's been changed...etc, etc, etc...

What confused me, is that on the plate, it has both 201 & J.

Thanks fellas for the replies!!

The pdf does say that the tag indicated model number and style. So
yours is probably model 201 style J. I don't know for sure but J
seems to be associated with a lift-type (3 point) hitch and L with
pull type.
