Friends Ford 1000 tractor

Hi guys, this is Davebn from the Farmall/IH board. My friend has a Ford 1000 that needs work. I have been watching your board for some time
now and see no discussions on this tractor plus I have searched here and other sites and find very little info. Specifically the steering has
been broken and welded but needs replacing. The sector gear/shaft specifically is broken. What can you guys tell me about this tractor? Are
any parts, specifically steering, interchangable with other models?
I have enjoyed your discussions by the way, kinda glad for this opertunity.

Ford 1000 was a 1973-1976 compact tractor sold by Ford, but made by shibaura. It was a 2 cy diesel with a respectable 23 pto hp. It was replaced by the 1600 and may or may not have parts that interchange as they both had the 78d engine. Good news is that they were good tractors. Bad news is that parts can be hard to find. A quick search shows a ford 1000 steering box for sale on ebay for 275 plus shipping. I would jump on it. Broken Tractor 's website shows sector shafts for sale at $195 plus shipping. Malpas in england shows the left and right sector shafts new also. Google search is your friend.

You also be over choking it, usually a quick burp is all that is needed.
