I have a 1995 1720 4x4 SSS that has developed a leak in the timing gear cover gasket... I was perusing the Repair manual and it looks like replacing that gasket is a bear and a half. Has anyone done one of these themselves? Any tricks or words of advice? Or should I be willing to pay a shop to do this job? I don't have a fully enclosed space that's tall enough to accommodate the tractor (it has a SIMS cab on it) so I would be working outside in the winter in Vermont.
The leak is not very bad, but it's a steady drip, and I imagine it's likely to get worse. It's behind the hydraulic pump, I initially hoped it was the O-ring between the hydraulic pump and the take-off-gear housing, but sadly when I took the hydraulic pump off to replace the O-ring it became obvious it was the timing cover gasket
