Ford 7600 Question...

Hi, new to the forum, but have been reading for a long time. I recently purchased a Ford 7600, serial # FA215C-1KO1B-C677263 (1981 with 268 Blue Power Special engine). I have been replacing the PTO shaft and sleeve, as they were missing when I bought the tractor. The odd thing is, although I have read numerous times on this and other forums, this tractor does NOT have a Load Monitor. It also does not have Dual Power, just an 4-speed with Hi/Low. It is also painted yellow! It seems to be a tractor that Ford never built. I have not seen or heard of another one like it, even on the interweb. There are no levers for dual power, and the Three-Point lever does not have a Load Monitor position. I am baffled. Is it possible Ford would have built an early 7610 and put 7600 tin on it? The date code states 12th month/81. Anyone who could chime in on this please do. Thanks in advance!

Dual Power was optional, Load Monitor may have been, too. Yellow paint would suggest it was a state or county owned tractor.

I?m not an expert at all, nor claim to be. I?ll tell you what I understand to be true about these tractors. I may be wrong but this is what I understand. The 7600 is the utility version while the 7700 would be the row crop, which would have come with dual power as an option and almost all of them came with it. With the 7600 being the utility with the option of dual power, I assume as many did not come with it. Like I said this is just what I?ve learned from others as I?ve been looking. Hope this helps.

And a state bid or municipal spec?ed tractor would be very likely not to have DP and LM options.

Your serial number is 17000 into the 81. Your build date is 10/01/1981. However your FA2 says its a 7600 from 76 to 80?

Only thing I can figure is that it was a special order, and they grabbed the 7600 parts to build a tractor to meet the specs for this order. For city, state orders they did do special builds.

(quoted from post at 20:08:07 02/07/19) Dual Power was optional, Load Monitor may have been, too. Yellow paint would suggest it was a state or county owned tractor.

Parts site shows many parts in the top cover drawing listed as "W/Load Monitor" (With Load Monitor) and many others listed as "L/Load Monitor" (Less Load Monitor), so it looks like Load Monitor was definitely optional.

That is very interesting, thanks for the insight! The tractor also has an electronic ether start option, in lieu of a thermostart. Not to sure if this is factory or not, but looks to be considering the decal below the push button. Was this also common on a 7600? It is also worthy of noting that certain elements of the tractor (such as the Q-cab, auxiliary fuel tank, front axle and air cleaner cover, however not the radiator shell or hood) look to have originally been painted blue, then yellow, while the engine, rear-end and tranny were not, they were only painted yellow. Seems like a real mish-mash of a tractor to me. But none the less, pretty cool to see. Obviously not a rare tractor, but unique :)

Well I'm somewhat happy about that, as the previous owner said it was having PTO issues, which is why the PTO shaft and sleeve was missing from the tractor. I was dreading doing a rear end split to fix it, considering the Q-cab removal required to do it. Still waiting on my new PTO shaft to arrive, but if it turns out to be a PTO clutch problem, or something else, can this be done through the rear cover, or is a split still the easiest way?
