Ford 4000 art deco

I have a Ford 4000 row crop. A guy from the tractor club called it a art deco model. What are the changes for the art deco?

Always mention if you have a 62-64 Four
cylinder row crop or a 65-75 Three
cylinder one.
Looking at your older posts it sounds like
you have a 3 cylinder one.
You will generally find people here refer
to those as a 4200 as that is technically
what Ford called them.
Did you ever get the SOS fixed on it?
As to the Art Deco comment, I have no idea
why and have never heard anyone use that
term in reference to them.
Being it's an SOS, are you certain he
didn't say art jerko?
Wink
How about posting some photos of it.
Art Deco

yes.. the sos was often(fondly) referred to the ""Jerkomatic"" as it could be shift any time to any gear and yes.... it jerked when you did so. So the name Jerkomatic is common in some circles. Handy as a pocket on a shirt as these trannys could be change instantly for any load or condition. But no one will say they are smooooth on a big gear change. These tractors were the few that had a true gear for running a tiller at the correct ground speed.

I've heard of Jubilee's being called an art deco design... since the '62-'64 models had such similar sheet metal, they might also be considered art deco...

I thought about the wheat on the medallions of the post NAAs as kind of Art Deco.
Not sure what years they used the wheat but it ended well after the AD period.
If Secondbest would ask the guy who said it more about it I would be glad to hear the story.

I just did a Google search on "Art Deco Ford Tractor" and I found an article on Hemmings talking about the 9N having an art deco body styling.

There were a number of other hits that referred to the N series tractor as art deco as well. Which really fits, as the art deco stylings in architecture and product design was at its heyday during the late 1920's and into the '30's.

I forgot to add... If it is a 4 cylinder 4000 row crop, then it has the same general tin design as the previous Ford tractors going back to the N series.

I posted your link on the N board.
Thanks.
I have always thought the Ns were handsome
little tractors. I also think Ford never
built a very good looking tractor after
that. And no offence to you Hundred lovers
but those had particularly ugly styling -
especially that cyclops nose.
The nose on later Thousand series (4 cyl)
was a big improvement stylewise.

I'm actually partial to the eggcrate grill on the 801/901 series myself.
