Nancy got lipstick...

Just an update to a 900 I posted here a year or 2 ago. With the weather being what it was, did a little work in the shop on "Nancy the 900". Here's some before and after pictures. She needed rear tires, this summer while mowing the 2nd stage in the clutch was acting up, so a split was due. Perfect time to split it in the dead of winter, and since most of the sheet metal was off, well might as well paint her. Rear fenders were rough and still are. Nancy still works for a living (part time now that she's 63). Here's a couple of before and after pictures. P.O had welded the hood to the doglegs, so I just finished what he started and smoothed them off. Not what I would have preferred to do, but I kind of like the results. Having problems posting pictures, may have to post them again.

Here's the pictures I hope

I've always thought those NFs looked rather dainty from the front so Nancy is an appropriate name.
However, it looks to me like she not only got some lipstick but used a bit of blush, powder, mascara and had her hair done.
Very nice job on a great old tractor.

The spinning powermaster gear decal is not right for a '55 but still looks good just the same.

You've done an great job and should be proud. I see you've lowered the exhaust stack a little, is that for limb avoidance?

nice - congratulations - enjoy your refreshed, useful, senior citizen - it's amazing a piece of equipment this old remains useful and in some ways superior to modern pieces -

You have a nice piece of art there, useful too! I love these old tractors. nothing compared to them then, and definitely not now either. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome job! The NF 900/901 are beautiful tractors. One day I may have to paint mine. Paint chipped off on it shows red, blue under that, and different red under that.

Still ain't too bad.......

Thanks for all the compliments. I just love this 900. I have had several 860's and 8N's through the years, and never knew how handy these narrow fronts are. Between it and the 841 4x4 they handle most of the chores around here.
Kirk, I know the decal isn't correct for a 55, but I like the looks.
The choice of paint is a good question. A few years back did the 841 with Van Sickle paint, and was not impressed with it. Years back Fleet Farm had a line of industrial / agricultural paint that worked well with hardener. They now have a line again called Old 55 ( kind of sounds like a whiskey), a friend used it and recommended it. The color is close and it laid out well, and only time will tell.
Thinking about putting the half tracks on it. Not sure how well they will work with the narrow front.
Maybe she'll get to play in the snow this weekend.

I'm not a fuss budget about paint.
Imo, paint is to keep things from rusting. The fact that it makes things pretty is just a bonus. I also used to buy the Valspar paint from Fleet Farm and had good luck with it.
When they went to the Old 55 I was sceptical but tried it on an 860 that my buddy was fixing up to sell.
Was very pleasantly surprised by the stuff so we painted our twin industrials with it.
That paint goes on so nice and flashes beautifully. Like you say, time will tell but I will use that paint again.

fifteen years ago the local FFA chapter restored my buddy's H. I took this picture last year.

If I put any amount of work into a project I would like it to look good for a few years. Probably at least as long as the low bid original paint lasted.
