801 hydraulic Problem

Took a remote hydraulic control off of a parts 901 and installed it on my 801. After I did, I started getting hydraulic oil into my crank case. I think a valve in the control unit must be stuck and have not allowed the hydraulic oil to cycle through the system as normal. Any ideas if I'm on the right track.

Into the crank case?

I believe that could only be through the whole hydraulic pump, out around the shaft for the gear, and into the back of the cam, into the oil pan, would it not?

Yes! But is it coincidence? Or did putting that remote valve on cause the system to go to high enough pressure to blow the rear seal in the pump? I guess that's possible, but I really don't know.

Hydraulic oil in the engine oil??? You better reevaluate! I guess there is a first time for everything, although I don't know how you would get hydraulic oil through a working hydraulic pump into the crankcase

Everything was fine with the hydraulics before I added the remote, then the very first time I started the engine I had the hydraulic oil going into the crankcase under enough pressure that it shot out through the dipstick on the engine. Our theory is the blown seal in the hydraulic pump caused by back pressure from the remote, but never heard of this before. Really confused here.

I do! I don't think Tex needs to reevaluate. I just think he needs to find out why his pump blew a seal. I hope when he does, he'll enlighten us dummies as to what caused his problem.

tex, that remote doesn't happen to be on demand does it? Even if it is the pressure relief valve should be at normal and not blow the pump seal. I'm not familiar enough with that pump to know if pump pressure should be able to get to that seal if the pump was in good shape, but I wouldn't think so.

Perhaps a good pump rebuild is in order, as well as figuring if that valve put the system on demand. Even if the system was on demand it shouldn't blow the pump seal unless the pump has internal issues and/or the relief valve is stuck.

Larry;
I think something internal to the valve is messed up and it looks like it will have to be replaced since no rebuild kits are available. I may ask on this forum if anyone has a working spare they'd sell. I will also be doing a complete pump rebuild.
