I think this one has seen better days. There's the glow you see
on the right and inside the left rear it was throwing sparks.

I agree Bern. It was replaced today with one I had on the shelf.
Next time I go to town I'll get a new one and put it on the shelf.
The warranty isn't worth squat if you tell them it was on a tractor
so it doesn't matter to me if it sets around a while. It's more
important to me to have one here when I need to replace one.
I just ask them to test it before I leave the store so I know it works.

They are EZ to repair and the parts are cheap I did a boat load of them back in the day when replacements were not cheap... I am not sure its worth the time anymore unless you just had the need to repair one...

About the time I would get were I thought I had them all figured out some stupid little problem would pop up on one and wreck my day...

The first one that kicked my butt...

I never took the rectifier out if it checked good I got away with that for a long time... Till one day I about wore that alt out taking it apart the rectifier was good so no need to take it out as a last resort was gonna put a new rectifier in it every thing else had been replaced... When I went to remove the screw on the ground side it just spun it had eroded into $!*&%*% chit... till this day the rectifier comes out and the leads on the stator get soldered :)....

Then the numerous rotors that checked good that were bad then one day a guy showed me how to check'em with a battery charger to see how many amps it would draw... About that time they were history...
