Book printed in 1960 recommended 30 wt oil for my outside temps. Question is there any issues running a standard 10w40 diesel engine oil in my tractor? Understand the oil availability in 1960 was a strait wt and that engines are made to tighter standards now due to the oil we have available now.

I'd recommend a 15W-40 in that engine. 10W-40 is rare in diesel oil specs. 10W-30 is the next lighter oil in a multi-vis diesel.

I would run a multigrade diesel oil, Shell Rotella,Chevron Delo or Mobil Delvac are all high quality diesel oils. They are readily available just about everywhere and fairly price, I wouldn't hesitate to run Walmart's house brand diesel oil either.

Hi Larry
Thats what I meant. I have 7 diesels on the property now, running Mobil 15w40 in everything else. Figured it would be fine, but never hurts to ask.

I would run a multi-grade oil unless you're in a very warm climate.

I've tried 15W-40 in my gas tractor, but I've found it gets hard to start when the temperature gets much below -10F. I now use 10W-30. There are synthetic diesel oils, such as Rotella T6, that are available in 5W-40; these should work in just about any climate.
