Ford 4000 3pt wont stay down

Hello all
Ford 4000 4cylinder gas. 3pt will not stay down when running reguardless of control posistion or draft. You can stop the arms with very little effort and push them down with maybe 50-60 lbs but they will raise all by them selves.

Been thru the valves and all rebuilt most of then as this was a basket case to start. Arms will lift full force when commanded and fill hold with machine off. Will lower and hold to commanded posistion as well when off.

Just when running will lift arms. What should I look for thansk

sounds like the valve controlling the back pressure is controlling at a pressure that is too high.

Is it that or is the check vavle too weak and allowing to to raise since I can holding in back or.push it down.

Is there a spring rate pressure spec since these are nee parts

f you can push arms down [u:29be36928f]without[/u:29be36928f] touch control lever being in the LOWER/drop position (i.e., in LIFT or HOLD), that would indicate that check valve is not closing properly or that main control valve is adjusted wrong.

Can push arms down with lever in the lower posistion. If lever is in hold or raise you can not push down.

hat leads me back to too much backpressure.

You can see in the pic that part of the
machined port is deteriorated. That's
where the back pressure pilot meets the
end of check valve seat. Do you believe
that may be my problem. Thanks

erspective is lost in that picture for me. Also, not familiar with the term "backpressure pilot". help me a little.

Picture is hard to capture because its 3 I chest into the top plate. That's looking down the port with then check valve assembly with the screw in plug at end.

Back pressure pilot is what book calls the stepped cop piece that goes between spring and check valve seat... the 2nd piece you would install

Is the damage on the actuals seat of either check ball or backpressure pilot or perhaps on the outer edge of the part called check valve seat(largest part in my picture with hole in it and O-ring around it).

Damage is in the lift cover itself. With all parts removed.

Your back pressure vavle that's goes in prior to check valve seat, is that the direction it goes in... with the spring going into the female side of valve

f in cover casting, then I don't expect that is a problem. Yes, on direction of back pressure valve. I know your drawing from manual shows it the other way, and other manuals show it just the opposite and all I can say is that such drawings are made by 'illustrators' and not the designer. You have the part there in your hands and if you do trial fit both ways, I think you will see.

es, that no doubt gave high enough back pressure to raise the lift when lift was not commanded. Glad you got it fixed!
