Need help identifying! Ford 3000?4000?

I have a Ford 3000 trans and rear end with an engine with a casting number of E2NN 6015 BB . And block serial number of Star-SGD818600-star. Cast on the block is 4.4". It is a sleeved block. Every thing I find says it's a diesel but yet it is set up as gas. It is very wore out in the cylinders and I can't find any sleeve piston kits for a gas model. Any thoughts?

If the block is sleeved then someone made it that way - it was not sleeved from the factory. The E2NN block number also tells me that the engine is not original to your tractor. It was made in the early 1980s.

According to a Google search, E2NN6015BB is a 201 ci block. Bern is correct that the E2 at the beginning says that the casting was designed in 1982, so it is definitely a much later engine than the trans and rear end if you are sure that they are from a 3000.

I don't think that the blocks themselves were different between the gas and diesel 201's at that date, or at least replacement blocks were the same. According to the parts site the part number for a block for both a gas and diesel 4610 is 9673710DS.

Also, the second and third characters of the engine serial number, "GD" indicate is is a block for both gas and diesel. The "S" at the beginning of the S/N would be a "D" if it was instaled into a 4610 series tractor when it left the assembly line, so I agree with Scott that it is probably a remanufactured engine or the block was purchased as a replacement and the engine was built up by a previous owner.

Thank you all very much for your help. Looks like I will have to resleeve it and new pistons and rings.

Im brand new to this forum, so pardon me if this has been asked once already .

Just wanted to know exactly where to find the correct Identifying NUMBERS and letters for an Old Ford 4000 Diesel Tractor. I bought it with a loader and backhoe attached to it, still runs like a champ, but Diesel s getting into the oil and I may have to replace the Injector Pump Im told. I want to make sure that I get the right parts and it be nice to order the correct part and correct service manual for it.

I can post a picture of it as soon as I figure that out, but in the meantime, if you or anyone knows exactly where to find these number, please advise. God bless yall.
Thank you

Thank you[/quote]

There were two different Ford 4000 tractors. The earlier one made from 1961-1964 had a 4 cylinder engine. The later one made from 1965-1975 had a 3 cylinder engine. The location of the identifying numbers is the same for both, on a flat spot on the bell housing just above and to the rear from the starter, but on the earlier 4 cylinder models the starter is on the left side of the tractor and on the later 3 cylinder models it is on the right (Your left or right side when you're seated on the tractor).

Great. Thank you. Does it begin with numbers or letters? Can you tell me how many digits I m looking for or give an example? Mine is the older 4 cyl Diesel. Unfortunately, its greasey, rusty and faded. I want to make sure I get all the numbers and letters if any , so that I can properly identify it.and find out exactly what year it was made.

Thanksk again.

The model number for an earlier 4 cylinder 4000 diesel should be a 5 digit number starting with either 40 or 41. If it begins with 40, then it would be an Industrial model made from 1961-1962. If it begins with 41 then it is either an ag chassis or industrial model made from 1963-1964. The remaining 3 digits will tell us what chassis it has as well as which transmission and PTO options. Since it is a diesel it should have a "-D" after the 5 digit model number. There should be a second number below the model number which is the serial number which should be between two "diamonds" which are actually a less than and greater than sign stamped next to each other like this:

<>12345<>

The serial number could be from 4 to 6 digits long.

If it's the older 4 cylinder diesel model the numbers are located under the edge of the battery tray and have most likely been eaten away by battery acid.
Those models have injection pumps that are known to leak fuel past the umbrella seals, a simple fix if nothing else is worn.
Theres a couple of pump guys on this site that can fix you up if needed.
That model diesel is also noted for return line leaks under the valve cover but I'd have the pump resealed first.
