Hello all, My father has a 1966 Ford 3000 with 3cyl Propane burning engine. This is OEM and not an add on. According to Serial # it was British made. How it made it's way here we don't know.We used it for years on the farm and it still runs great. Is there anyone out there that can shed some more light on this for us? We have all the manuals and such. Everything is all original except the fenders and propane solenoid. We no longer work a farm and he is wanting to get rid of it. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Have pics to add if wanted. Would like to know what this tractor may be worth. Would be a great refurb project. If I had the time and funds, I would do it. As of now it is being garage kept. Please let me know anything you can. Thanks CJ

Yes, propane (LPG) powered engines were an option on Ford tractors back when yours was made. As for it being made in Britain, that was one of 3 assembly plants where they made basically the same tractors. The European made ones generally had the headlights inset into the grill vs. out on the sides of the nose of the tractors like the American made ones, as well as a hand lever parking brake and extra lighting, including turn signals. Other than that they are the same. A number of the European made models made their way here for various reasons. Lots of them were imported to Canada and then sold used into the US later.

The propane models are less common than the gasoline or diesel models in most areas, but in certain parts of "oil country" they were actually more common because propane was considered a waste product of making gasoline and so was sold dirt cheap in those areas for a long while.

As to its value, it depends on condition and location, as prices vary from one area of the country to another. If it runs then it should be worth at least $3500.00 anywhere in the country and prices could go up from there depending on which transmission and PTO options it has, as well as the exact condition of the tractor and the tires.

The fact that it's a propane tractor isn't going to add any value over a gasser or a diesel unless you find a buyer who specifically wants a propane model, as most folks ended up converting theirs to gasoline when the propane systems had problems, which most of them did eventually. Replacement parts for the propane system are generally not available any longer as far as I know, but some folks have been able to modify propane systems from other engines to work on their Ford tractors.

Great information. I really appreciate your time in answering me. That helps a great deal. My dad wants to donate this to NRA, I myself want him to either sell it and get a bit of money or let me keep it and eventually restore it. Who knows, but if the price is right, will probably sell. Thanks again. We are taking offers and will be glad to send vids of it running and pics. Let us know.
