What Injector Pump For A 2000?

I bought a 1972 2000 tractor on Craigslist a few months ago knowing it needed an injector pump. The problem I'm having is, I cannot find but one or two pumps that share the same number as mine online. And those are $650 and $900! There are alot of other pumps for 2000's that are around the $500 range... So I'm wondering will any pump for a 72 diesel work no matter the numbers on the pump? Or are the numbers actually that critical? I'm not against buying the higher priced ones just don't want to if I don't gotta...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Why not repair the pump you have? I repair Cav pumps on an almost weekly basis. Some don't need much, some maybe a different head n rotor. Either way they are not expensive to fix. I probably have a rebuilt pump here that will fit that tractor. I should be able to match or beat any reputable pump shop out there. Al 231/757/0064

Be careful buying just any pump that looks like it might work. CAV made injection pumps for many different brands of engines,
and detail differences could mean the difference between fitting or not.

If everything looks identical, but it's simply the wrong number, then it could be that the pump you're looking at would be for
a 3000 or 4000 tractor. While it should bolt up and run, it would likely belch some black smoke at higher power levels, since
the maximum fuel adjustment would be higher on the 3 & 4000 tractors.

A good injection pump shop should be able to cross the pump numbers you're looking at to engine make and model numbers.

Me being the type of guy I am I thought I could buy the kit and repair the pump myself.... Lets just say this happened... There are a lot of stuck parts on this pump that I wasn't able to disassemble. And so I just decided I was going to buy a new or refurbished one.

That is what I was taught was a "train wreak". I call them a STD. Someone else Tore it Down. Don't worry, its still fixable. I did a DPA style pump last summer that was in five pieces! A guy ran over his bale spear after it fell off of his quik tach loader. Spear went between the frame and engine block as he drove over it. Tons of parts for this style pump out there. Al

Yes repair it. I can repair those pumps even with stuck heads for 600 bucks or less. Hard to find a replacement for that. Most places give you a nice price on the pump, but stick you when they receive your core. By then its to late to turn back. You have their pump, they have your old one. Kicker is they have also have your card number. I have talked to more than one guy who got stuck with this catch 13. Al

I recently did business with Al. I had a broken fuel line-CAV pump adapter (part of my pump) on my '65 3000. We did a little jawin' and he fixed me
right up, fast service, right part, and reasonable price. I also follow Dieseltech on here and I'd trust his judgement too. Not an authority, but I am a
Ford and Branson guy, currently have 5 (having had 4-5 more over the years) and have had diesels for 35 years. Might be to your advantage to take
their advice, pick one, and go for it.
