power steering cylinder seal R&R

I have no luck with the search on here.

I'm working on my '63 4000 power steering cylinders.

I need to put new seals in the cylinders. I remover the snap ring, and the star scraper washer. Now how do I get the rest out. I have tried to pry it out with a curved awl, but no luck. I've cleaned around the inner edge, and I have tried to use air into both lines, but still no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Pat

Hay, Pat. This probably wont help unless you go ahead and install the system. Someone on here said to just crank your engine and turn the wheel and the hydraulic pressure will push the rest out. You could go buy a cheap jack and fix it like those guys do on youtube and make a pressure pump out of the jack and plumb it to the cylinders.

Jack'em out with a screw some'N like a sheet rock screw are a wood/metal screw... Sometimes you have to use a awl to center punch a hole it then run a screw in and jack it out... Those seal are HARD....

Thanks, guy's for the idea's. I will give it another go today. I wasn't sure on how rough I could get with it. Sounds like I can, as long as I don't touch the shaft. I should say scare it in any way.

Thanks again, Pat

Thanks, I got them out. I heated my awl up, and sunk it into the nylon part, and lifted it out. Kinda, but it came out, then got the inner seal out also. They are all cleaned up, waiting for the new seals, and paint.

Next.....

Thanks, Pat
