Question for SOS gurus

We have a direct clutch SOS with a broken case at the starter mount.
We also has a earlier model over running clutch SOS that needs refreshed.
My question is can the components from a direct drive SOS be installed in a earlier case to eliminate the over running clutch.

I suspect it can, but I don't claim to be any kind of an expert with the pre- '65 models. I think Larry would be the guy who
has the concrete answer.

I don't, Bern. But I have seen a DDC transmission in a 312259 case. So I'm with you. I'm guessing the answer is yes, but I don't know for certain.

Not trying to muddy the water even more but I have an early 63 4000 that my dad bought new that is a DDC in a 312259 case and I know for sure it is original. So I'd have to agree with the others and say it is possible. What all modifications it may take to do a change over I have no idea. My 2 cents worth Greg NE

Give Leroy at Page Equipment in Luray VA a call. He will know. If it can be done he will have done a couple dozen.

It can be done but it takes some work. Not just a swap
internals job. Good friend of mine Greg Lenorad said he done
several using 6000 internals but you have to drill some holes
for the direct drive pressure line to go through the case

Ok thanks, Guess I need to set both cases side by side and look them over good.
I don't mind doing a little work to make it happen, just don't want to get into a lot of costly machining or ruin a case and not have it work.

I have a spare 5000 SOS trans for parts if anyone needs anything, may be picking up another 5000 SOS diesel parts tractor soon.
