Advice needed on 860 Power Steering surprise

So I open up the power steering oil reservoir on my 860 and this is what I find. Believe it or not the power steering seemed to be working before I parked it for radiator replacement.

1) how do I flush this out of the system?

2 is the filter inside the reservoir supposed to be canted like in the pic? I loosely grabbed it and it seems to be attached or maybe stuck in that gunk.

Best way I've found is to jack up the front and disconnect the lines at the cylinders. Don't fail to mark the hoses.

Turn the wheel side to side until no more oil comes out.

Refill the reservoir.

Repeat until oil comes out clean.

Replace the filter.

Replace the lines.

Top off reservoir after starting and operating through full range several times.

Repeat process if desired.
