Having trouble with my 960 gas. When I try to throttle it up it starts to pop back through thru the exhaust. I have installed new points and condenser cap and wires. I have also rebuilt the carb. It seems to get better after it warms up but never goes away completely. The tractor sets a lot and is never used hard. It starts good and idles good.It almost sounds like a valve is not seating rite. Anyone have any ideas. It's got me scratching my head.

I'm with SC, sounds like you may have a wire crossed.

For your comparison:

I agree with Larry. If it starts and idles good and only has problems when increasing rpm's, I would think that you need to look at the timing advance mechanism.

Soory guys! How does "it start good and idle good" with wires crossed?

He has fueling issues.

Sorry Larry, all I can say is try it. You will probably be surprised.

Somehow, I doubt that very much. If he's crossed wires he's got an engine running on two cylinders. I don't think he'd call that "idling fine."

Furthermore, I've been there and done that,. Don't think it'd be any surprise at all

How long ago Larry? Three weeks for me. Fresh on my mind.

close the fuel shut off valve. take your fuel line loose. squirt some w-40 in there and button it up and try it. even though you over hauled your carb it sounds as though your needle valve is sticking. wd-40 is an oil based liquid that will stop that. give it a try. not going to hurt.
