Ford 3000 gas, hydraulic oil in motor

Would this hurt the motor? I know the leak is coming from the hydraulic pump to the casting. I’m 90% because the motor filled (not coming out of the dipstick) and the transmission was low). This happened six years ago and has happened again.

There is nothing connecting the transmission to the engine that could cause a transmission leak to flow into the crankcase.

The hydraulic sump for the 3 point system is the rear axle, not the transmission, and they are completely separate systems unless there is a leak between the two. Check the fluid level in the rear axle. If it is also low then it might be the hydraulic pump that is leaking fluid into the engine.

Yes, hydraulic oil, depending on the exact type, might have additives that could be bad for the engine. Some folks use straight 30 weight oil for hydraulic fluid and if that is the case in your tractor, then no, but for most other types of hydraulic fluids, yes.

I would check the fluid level in the power steering system as well, as the p/s pump is more likely to leak fluid into the crankcase than the hydraulic pump, although that has been known to happen as well.

When it happened six years ago what did you do to resolve the problem?

I was trying to think of how you
could get hyd oil into the
engine.
It might be that your hyd pump
is leaking and putting the oil
in the engine. But I can't say
if that is possible. I have not
heard of that before but maybe
others have.
Are you sure it is not your
power steering pump? That is a
fairly common thing on those.

I had to add more oil to the rear end a few weeks ago. I use what ever I can get TSC. Last year we pulled off the power steering and installed a manual sector.

I'm certain its the pump. We pulled out the old seals in late 2014 (sorry about the date) and installed new ones. I pulled off the hoses, but need the tractor yesterday so I reattached the lines back on (need the tractor for the rest of the week).

I think the only way that can happen is through the seals on the pump shaft, between the tapered roller bearing and the needle bearing. The fluid in the pump housing is on the suction side so should not force itself through the seals. Could some fluid on the pressure side be bypassing and pressurizing the suction side? Maybe some check balls are sticking.

Ya, I don’t think it’s engine oil (I can’t smell it), at one point we had a parts tractor and took the pump off of that and I don’t know if any parts from that went into the current pump.

Would traveller premium universal tractor trans/ hydraulic fluid be bad for the motor when running it.

hydraulic fluids used to start out with a 20wt oil and go from there with additives for anti foaming, oring conditioner, and anti rust/oxidation additives. Later some had(some limited) anti friction additives, and (some limited) anti wear additives. So.. they probably would not destroy the engine, but are not optimized for combustion engines as an hd diesel oil would be with different type of additives to fight sludge, cold starts, coaking, valve deposits, viscosity change, acid fighters, etc, etc, etc,, as hd oils have many many more requirements to meet.

Thanks, had to add a little more today and a rebuilt kit is on it’s way. Just wondering what is the part number for the hydraulic pump? I see some online but they aren’t the right ones it looks like.
