Power Steering Fluid

On our Ford 3600 gas tractor, the tractor sat for awhile and now we see that the power steering fluid has gelled. Any clue what would cause this. By the way the power steering is working OK. Cannot see how to drain the ps fluid. Thanks

Get(ask) your wife to pick you up a turkey baster at the store or scoop it out with a long spoon. It might have water in it that makes it gel, more pink than red.

That's the way I handled it. Couple of winters ago, there was enough water in the oil, that it froze when it circulated through the filter, and no power steering. Like riveroadrat sez, it was milky pink. Turkey baster worked great, did it twice to get as much water out as I could, and put a new filter in.

Just pull the cover off and while you have it off get your fluid problem fixed and put in a new filter....about 10 bucks readily available. On mine periodically I just flush it by sticking a suction hose in the fill hole and sucking out all that will come out then fill to run-over at the cap opening.

Thanks guys, appreciate the replies. Waiting for a milder day and will suck that fluid out, replace filter and refill.
