'55 640. Got the cut off out real
easy. Rivet came out easy.
So.....why can't I just reinstall
the rivet? Also does the o ring
number fit either kind of valve?
Thanks!

If the rivet goes back in tight and prevents the stem from unscrewing, sure go for it. Part of the reason for replacing with a screw is so that the stem can be removed easily with the valve installed.

As for O- ring, I'm not sure. If you don't have an O-ring assortment kit at home I'd take it to your local NAPA or other auto supply and see if they can match it up.

Hello Kevin,
I always reuse the rivet, if they are hard to get out I don't put them back quiet all the way in but deep enough to prevent your valve from screwing out. A regular o-ring will not last very long with gasoline. I have o-rings that are suppose to work if you need some.
By the way, I really enjoyed the tractor ride and tractor games your group put together the other day.

Hello Jim! I'm going to run by Napa this morning to see if they have o rings that will hold up. If not I will take you up on the offer. The 640 was sitting at church all day of the ride and when we moved it over to the show line up the cut off went to leaking. It has an in line cut off so we never use the one under the tank. Luckily when we screwed it shut it stopped leaking. Un lucky we had just filled it up for the ride and had to drain it. Just getting around to fixing it. Always something......... Thank you for coming to our ride, hopefully we can do it again next year.
