All
I purchased a small Pecan Orchard that came with a Ford 3000 tractor. I started troubleshooting the rear hydraulics and decided to change the hydraulic fluid. However looks like I should have done more homework cause I removed a slotted screw ( and drained 5 gallons of fluid) and now I cant get the screw back in place. I came across this older article on this site that has a picture of this screw circled in red - see link below. Does anyone know how I can reinsert this screw?

Previous article with Picture showing slotted screw circled:

That article also came with a warning "DO NOT loosen the slotted screw marked by the arrow."

If unable to pull up previous article, I've attached the same pic to this article for reference.

That slotted screw was screwed into a captive nut on the bracket for the return line and filter in the drawing below. The screw is number 49. The tube with the bracket is number 43. If you have someone to help, you can remove the round plate on the opposite side that has the PTO handle mounted to it and reach inside and hold the tube in place while your helper starts the screw into the threads of the nut. Some folks claim you can do it by yourself if you have really long arms but I have never tried so I can neither confirm nor deny that statement.

You aren't the first one to do this.
Neither was I 😀
That screw holds a bracket inside.
To replace it first remove the step plate on the Left side of the tractor. That's the Port side for you landlubbers.
Then remove the round cover.
Look inside with a flashlight and you will see the bracket on the opposite side.
Now go get your neighbor, wife, buddy or a kid and give them a large screwdriver. Have them turn the screw while you reach in through the hole and hold the bracket in place.
Once they get the screw started you can finish.
It's an easy fix and I'll bet you won't touch that screw again.
