How does that dust cover come off 2000 Ford distributor.

First time working on a Ford 2000 3 cylinder distributor. I want to get at the points but that dust cover is giving me grief. I tried with a pair of pliers but I'm afraid of breaking the cover. What's the secret? They don't give you much room to change the points especially with a fel on it.

Did you take the rotor clip off?

They are a tight fit. I pry it off with my pocket knife. They are tight going back on too. be sure to get it properly aligned, square, and push gently.

I use a jewelers screwdriver to get under the edge and pry up a little in a few spots around the edge to get it started. Then once there is a large enough gap I switch to a larger screwdriver and repeat.
