Which carb for a Ford 800

I have a "55" Ford 800 with a 172 engine in it. I want to replace the carb, it's a Marvel but I can't find any numbers on it. Are they basically the same for that engine? Can I buy one of the reman's off this site?

When's the last time you cleaned the oil bath air cleaner. Whats wrong with your old one? They are pretty simple to fix, although I sometimes have trouble with a float needle sticking. If you decide to rebuild keep your old float needle if it's solid brass. Look up some old posts on carbs by clicking on modern view and type in 800 Ford carb rebuild in the search bar. When the page resets click on it again, it will pull up old posts on the subject. There are different opinions on the new aftermarket carbs.

With tractors of this age, parts get swapped around so you may
have an original for an 800 or it may be from the later 801/4000.
The mounting studs are spaced wider on the later ones to fit the
larger manifolds. If you match that spacing, you should be Ok.
Is there a reason not to rebuilt the current carb?

It's not uncommon for the brass tags to be missing, but here are
a couple of locations where it might have been.

Your original carb was probably a TSX593, which was superceded by
the TSX706 during the 800-series production run (the original carb
on my 1957 840 is a TSX706).

Bingo, Rivero.

I have a box full of brass needles somewhere around here.

The "Viton" seats were, indeed, an improvement when they were introduced in the early/mid 1960s, but they are not long term tolerant of Stabil and will eventually swell and stick in the seat if you use such.

Brass needles couldn't care if you use Stabil or alcohol.

Your advise regarding the oil bath air cleaner is also on point. Most have not been serviced in years. Most have not been properly serviced in decades.

After cleaning the muck out of the oil cup, replacing the oil, and REMOVING and cleaning the mesh, clean the down tube. I've seen down tubes closed off with accumulated dirt to 1/2" diameter. Something tells me that these tractors were operating very rich at load, spewing lots of black smoke and using much more gasoline than normal.

FWIW, I believe that the OEM 860 MS carb is a 593 but will need to check mine to be sure.

I've taken the carb off at least 3 times checked float, needle, jets. When I put it back on it will idle fine, soon as I put any kind of load on it it will start to break up and not want to run too good. Acts like it runs out of fuel. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes it starts back up but still can't put a load on it. even without a load it will run for a bit then shut off. Checked breather it's good. Thks.
