64 ford 4000 bubbling gas!

heat shield doesnt seem to be working. the exhaust is heating up the gas! do they make a mat or heat pad to protect the bottom of the tank from muffler heat and the engine??

Does it have a lot of rust holes? Is it too close to the tank? They do make heat shielding material, just google it.

Verify that the ignition timing is correct and that the centrifugal advance is functioning properly.

Avoid gasoline with ethanol.

What do you mean "ignitions good?"

Is the ignition timing set at 4 degrees BTDC at 450 RPM or lower?

Is the centrifugal advance functioning properly?

Are you using gasoline with alcohol therein?

tank is shiny. no rust. timing is perfect. gas is being heated by extreme heat from engine. never did it before. looking for a heat shield of a matted design like a bakers mitt. all oem heat shields are in place.

Never did it before what? More heat shields won’t address the problem. You need to determine whats causing it.

i think i did just now.
thermostat may be stuck. coolant isnt circulating. overheat from engine and hot coolant overheating tank, bubbling gas.

will let you know later on.

ok....
step 1....looked behind the rad grill and strw, crud, dirt etc...clogged the entire rad.
cleaned it out.
step 2....took off the thermostat housing....no thermostat!
some old timers use to runthem without one im told...to keep it from failing.
step 3....installed a 173deg thermostat. local farmer told me its better to have thermostat in to help slow down flow, so the rad can do its job and cool the coolant better.
step 4....started tractor. no issues. heat gone.
