crowd cylinder install ???

It's a great day at the neighborhood.... any backhoe (FORD 713 hoe on a '62 ford 2000) owners out there
ever replaced a "crowd" cylinder in a 713 model My concerns are how do I line up the pin hole on the
rod with the hole on the shell (at the bottom) when I lower the cylinder down into the shell???? There
is no opening at the bottom to facilitate this . Do I "just" lower it into the shell with the rod
extended and "fish" the hole on the rod in order to align it. When we removed the old cylinder it was
just a matter of disconnecting it from the top where the HY lines are and removing the bottom pin and
hoisting it out ! However, reassembling is another story; any help is as always appreciated.

If you can extend it with fluid behind the piston in the cylinder and then cap the connection before you attempt to install it, that should keep the rod more solidly linked to the cylinder housing so you should be able to more easily manipulate the end of the rod to line things up. If you just extend it with air behind the piston then it will try to retract any time the end of the rod bumps into anything.

I've done it before, don't recall any particular problems, below are the instructions from the service manual.

Andy: This looks doable as per the sent photos... I will look for my service manual and get my head around the project, etc. Per your sent photos it appears that the hoe arm(s) should be positioned parrell to the deck when attaching ??? If i cannot find my manual where would you suggest I purchase one or a copy of one, THX

Figure 4 shows the boom raised some, not really parallel to the
deck.

If you can't find your manual you should be able to find a used
original on Ebay - there's one there right now. Other places such
as Amazon or Jensales have reproductions. I got mine years ago from
another tractor site but I don't think I can mention which one on
this Forum (and their current price is kind of high).
