68 ford 5000 loses power after an hour or so

Hi All. I have a 68 ford 5000 diesel that I use to shred and disk with. It started losing power after about an hour into working. After I let it cool down, it will run for another hour or so and same results. The engine also seems to miss and idles down. I am thinking this has something to do with the injector pump however saying that, I have absolutely no experience with diesel engines. After researching a bit, I beieive it has a SIMMS injector pump.If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Those injection pumps are pretty rugged, so I'd look elsewhere. I suspect you either you have trash partially blocking the screen in your
fuel tank outlet, or else, if the screen has come off or been removed, you have the same issue going on inside the lift pump, plugging up the
check valves.

Sounds like fuel supply. Could also be the cap vent is plugged, no fuel out after awhile if air can't get in the tank. Next time it acts up shut the engine off, and listen for air rushing in when removing the cap. Neighbors White 2-155 died last spring after 1/2 hour running do to a plugged cap vent.

Have you checked the oil level in the inj pump. Those Sims pumps have their own oil reservoir for lubrication.
Thank you for the reply. I have been researching the Simms injector pump and did read about today actually. Going to try that this weekend when I get back out to the farm.

If it's like the Simms pump on my 65 3000 look on the top and it's a small round cover with a nut on top of it. It looks like the oil fill breather cap on smaller fords like Jubilee's and 600's. Take that off and look under it. There's a wire mesh filter like in oil bath filters in it. Mine would start and die so I changed the filters bleed it and it still did the same thing. After every diesel mechanic I know said it's got air in it keep bleeding it. Well after a day of that I started looking for another reason. Pulled that off and it was completely caked full of gunk. I cleaned it but it back on and it fired up.

I'm going with blocked screen in the tank. Next time it runs rough, stop and take the supply line off at the lift pump and if you don't have a good flow of diesel, blow back up the pipe until you hear bubbles in the tank, then see it you then get a good flow out of the pipe. You will have to bleed it then. If it is trash plugging the screen you'll need to flush the tank.
