Any tricks to get the threaded axle pin out? I have lock off and pin soaking in penetratig fluid. Is there a special tool for this ? Thanks for any help in advance.

Stick a long candle to the threaded area after heating. If you get it too hot the wax will ignite. It will keep it from galling the threads.

X2-works great.

Heat it up, hot, (just not red hot, it'll just burn the wax off.) touch the candle/wax to where you'd put penetrating fluid, then let it cool some, so that it wick's the wax in. Then try it, if it won't turn, let it cool some more. Wax will work better then penetrating fluids will when needing heating.

Check for welds...sometimes guys would tack a couple of welds on the pin and bolster when the threads strip. What type of pin do you have, does it have the big hex head or is it slotted?

I have the slotted. I have not tried anything yet. I am going to give a try tomorrow. I was afraid my only option was a big hammer and chisel with some heat. It has been soaking all week so hopefully it will not be horrible. Thanks for all the replies. I am going to try the wax.
