601 12v conversion HELP!!

I'm trying to convert a 6 volt positive ground to a 12v neg. ground system. I purchased the kit from Yesterdays tractor. The diagram they sent shows an Ammeter(which I don't have) being used. I Google searched and found a diagram for a Jubilee that looked like it would work. Now I have striped the 6 volt reg. off of the tractor wired it to the diagram and I still cant get it to turn over. Does anyone have a simple diagram using a 1 wire Alt. I could use? I also ordered a pigtail to make the Alt. they sent a three wire if needed. I have the resistor mounted near the coil and I'm using all the 6 volt components except I bought a new 12v starter solenoid. Should the junction block ring out if I touch each side with the multi meter? The one on the tractor will not. Thanks for all the help!!

Wire that originally connected to BAT on regulator goes to output on alternator.

With negative ground the ? post on coil goes to side of distributor. Battery negative to frame

?The diagram they sent shows an Ammeter(which I don't have)? ?I also ordered a pigtail to make the Alt. they sent a three wire if needed.?

Check the two tabs on the edge of the alternator. If there is a bridge across the tabs it can not be used as 3 wire. If no bridge, connect the regulator end of the ?idiot light? to the #1 terminal on edge of alternator and see if it works as 3 wire.

?Should the junction block ring out if I touch each side with the multi meter?? What do you mean by ?ring out?? You should see near battery voltage between 2 posts of junction block with switch off and near zero volts with switch on.

Did you get the correct 12 volt solenoid? It should work with the old 6 volt solenoid

Did it run fine on 6V/POS GRN? If not, it ain?t gonna on a 12V switch-over job. Why don?t you have an ammeter? The NAA (Jubilee) and 600 Model are virtually the same tractor. Why did you wire the Voltage Regulator into the circuit? On a 12V switch-over job, the generator is removed altogether and replaced with an alternator, and likewise the Voltage Regulator is removed altogether as well. What wiring diagram, if any, did you use? It is your tractor and you can do anything you want with it, but also realize that 99.98% of all non-starting/non-running issues are due to poor/incorrect wiring jobs whether 6V/POS GRN or 12V NEG GRN mostly by fellas who don?t have a clue on what they?re doing. Just because you have a 6V battery that is grounded via the positive battery cable does not mean the entire wiring system is correctly wired. A missing ammeter means there is at least one wire not correct as well. Here is a scan of the OEM 600/800 Wiring system, good for your NAA as well. Also there is a PICTOGRAM by JMOR of the correct 12V wiring setup.

I was a little confusing in my first post. I have removed all 6V wiring and components. I have wired it by the second diagram you attached, but I left the Ammeter out due to the tractor not having one. Today I'm going to start by tracing 12volts from the battery thru the diagram and see where it doesn't show. I believe the starter may be bad. It ran before but when the generator went out my uncle would just charge the battery and use it as long as he could before a recharge.

irgil is likely correct in suggesting that you have incorrect solenoid for your tractor and suggest that you re-install the old solenoid. Common mistake.

Because he's not working on an NAA or 600!!!
