I'm considering buying a 1995 4630 Ford that has very little history to go on. Seller say's he was told "transfer case will not shift",which I take to mean shuttle not working because picture he sent look's like it's 2 wheel drive. There's no operator to ask what it did or didn't do to cause it to be retired and sold. If I get it started and it move's forward and back on it's own power, how bad does it sound that shuttle isn't shifting? If it's likely to cost more than $2k to have it repaired,I'm not up for the gamble. I've never owned a similar tractor but what little I found online talked about bad/loose switch as what some people found. I am good at electrical troubleshooting if I have schmatics or told where and what to look for but my splitting and heavy wrenching days are over. It's an odds game because I will not be allowed to do much in the way of checking it out before buying it.
