5 speed tranny clutch pedal shaft

I have a 5 speed that has a shaft that doesnt screw in or someone stripped it out turning it the wrong way. We have some tractors that have a hex on the outside of the tranny and some that just have a washer looking surface there. I would like to know if you can reach the nut on the inside to tighten the pedal shaft by removing the shift cover assembly.

Perhaps I don't understand the question? The clutch pedal shaft doesn't go through the transmission.

I think he means the shaft the pedal itself pivots on??? However, I don't have an answer to his question.

I've never taken one off, but from the parts diagram, it looks like the hex part that looks like a nut is actually part of the shaft and the end of the shaft that goes into the trans housing is threaded, so the hole in the housing should be threaded as well. It it's stripped, you could weld it up and re-tap it and get a new shaft, or you could try a helicoil.

I found it in the archives last night, I think HoboNC had pics of the inside nut type. i think thats what i have as theres no hex on the outside. I remember trying to unscrew the outside nut type years ago but quit, Ive learned not to force things. I found out they are left hand threaded for pool ball type english. They wont unthread if loose.

you can reach the nut and put a wrench on it, but adding any real torque to it is difficult. Be prepared to make some adjustments to the wrench.
