Bern was right on the 4100

I rolled the pump all the way to the end of the bolt slots and it straightened out. Almost perfect, wish it had a little more... Strange to me that it wasn't way over there before the guy rebuilt it.

I'm left to conclude then that your automatic advance unit is not working, at least not fully. If it were in my hands, I could prove it in less than 10 minutes with my diesel timing light.

Ok I'll bite. Would you explain that test/test instrument for us ill-informed please sir?

sensor clips to the number one injector line and senses the vibration or sound of the pump firing the injector. This sensor then fires a timing light. Shine the light at the flywheel and look for the tdc and max advance marks... At least the way that mine works.

Looks like a regular gas timing light except that instead of a trigger going around #1 spark plug wire, you have a transducer clamped around the #1 injection line. The transducer is the part that says "6MM" on it. The transducer senses the pulse in the injection line. When the line pulses, the light flashes. The light is aimed at the timing marks on the flywheel below the starter. The "degrees" display on the unit tells me how many degrees of advance that I have when I electronically offset the flashes back to the TDC mark with the buttons on the gun. If the timing does not change between idle and wide open throttle, the advance mechanism is stuck completely.

The degree readout also tells me how many degrees the advance is actually moving. So, if the spec is for 10 degrees of advance, and it only moves 6, I've found my problem.
