Ford 5610 Power Steering Leak

We kind of have a mystery here. The leak does not seem to be consistent, but appears to come from the pump. It sometimes leaks almost all the fluid out when parked overnight. Seems to leak more when parked and not running than when we are using it. I found a couple of repair kits at Yesterday's Parts, but I'm wondering if it isn't just a single seal or something pinched. Has anyone had some experience that might help? Thanks.

Thanks Sean. Leaking on the ground. crankcase level is constant. Some times it will leak out to an inoperative level in one night. Some times less, but seems to leak more when not running. Yesterday has a couple of seal kits for around $60.00, but I don't know if all those seals need replaced, as everything works well when fluid level is up. I'm guessing it is just the reservoir seal (o ring) which is included in an inexpensive set, but don't want to leave this unit apart exposed to dirt, etc. if there is a better and less expensive option.

So it's leaking where the reservoir housing meets the pump body.

Has it done this since you have owned it or did it just start recently?

It could be the o-ring as you suspect, or the reservoir housing itself could be warped.

I keep 2 or three of the kits in stock all the time. We average resealing about one a month. Be sure and order a filter kit also. It has probably never been changed.

I ordered the seal kits, including the 3 Teflon ones, and a filter. Do you use all the seals when you just repair a leak? Thanks to all.

If it's just leaking at the base of the reservoir then I would just replace the filter and the large o-ring. No need to tear the pump apart to replace the shaft seals if they aren't leaking.

Thanks Sean in PA and welder man for your input. It is so cool to have this venue and people with knowledge that are willing to share. Hope to have seals next week and will update what happens.
