Power steering pump seals

I bought a kit that is supposed to fit a 1979 Ford 3600 power steering pump. The seals are to small and fit loose. They allow fluid to leak into the
crankcase. The original pump is D8NN3K541EA. I'm not seeing a kit for that pump, just for the 3600. Those are small. Anyone have suggestions?

Do you know for certain that the pump is original to the tractor? It could have been replaced at some point.

Also, I think you made a typo. D8NN3K541EA should be D8NN3K514EA, which if that is on a sticker on the pump probably means that it is an aftermarket pump that can be used as a replacement for the original. If it is an aftermarket pump then it's a crapshoot as to whether original seal kits will work or not.

So you believe the D8NN3K514EA is after market? Yes it was a typo. I saw in an earlier post that same pump was used on a 3600.

That part number was what was originally used on the 2600 and 3600, but I don't think that the original ones came with a sticker with the part number on it when the tractor left the factory.

What effect do you think a pump with 1100 psi would have. I?m a bit confused about the
D8NN3k514EA. It was the original pump but because mine has a badge it isn?t original?

Aftermarket pumps usually have labels on them with the original Ford part number that they are supposed to be a replacement for. The original Ford power steering pumps did not have a label with the part number on them when they left the factory. If anything they would have had a number on them that only meant something to the factory stocking team, as they used completely different numbers than what you use to lookup and buy parts from a dealership.

The problem is that most aftermarket replacement pumps come shimmed for 1100 psi no matter what part number they claim to be a replacement for because most later models used an 1100 psi pump. You can change the relief valve setting by removing or adding shims.

Again, as I said, if the seal kit from New Holland for the original model pump does not fit your pump, odds are that it is a replacement pump that is not the same as the original. I can't say for sure what the PSI is on it, but most replacement pumps come set to 1100 psi these days.
