If you mean the Sherman combo with three ranges, 9 forward
speeds and 3 reverse gears, I wouldn't say they were common
but not rare either.
It is more common to see them with a step up Sherman giving
you 6 forward speeds and two reverse gears.
Least common Sherman is probably the step down.
The step up or step down handle is fairly straight with a large
ball a the end. The "combo" handle looks like a dog's leg. Like this.
