8n pto shaft

Hey everyone, got a problem reinstalling the pto shaft. It came out easily but now is binding past the hydraulics. Seems like the alignment is off
and I?m not sure how to correct alignment through the pto shaft engager. I?ve tapped it through once but pto wouldn?t disengage afterwords.
Hope it?s something simple I?m overlooking.

I guess I'll reply to my own post. I may have boogered the end of the spline thus making it not slide in sleeve of the of the pto shifter assembly as smoothly as it should. Going to clean splines up and cross fingers otherwise it's a tractor split to repair pto assembly.

Did you have the round cover off? Possibly you are tying to put it back in while in the engaged position. With side cover off check to make sure the ford is it the right disengage position. Also the fork at the end of the shifter rail has a nut which may be loose. make sure it is tight.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds as though you got some good advice here. However, just FYI , there is another YT forum dedicated solely to the N series Ford tractors. It may be even more beneficial to you than this broader Ford forum.

thanks for the advice. I will check out that other forum. To finish this thread I will tell anyone interested that I accidentally burred the splines on the pto shaft and that's why it was hanging up in the sleeve inside the pto assembly. I cleaned the splines up and it slid right back in and is working like it should. Thanks all
