Hi I need help with my 1977 ford 420 loader /backhoe. Ive had it 3 years I try to keep it serviced and has always worked fine for and old hoe. I took it out of the barn yesterday and seem to have lost about half the power to the to the hoe. fluid is ok and clean. when you try to dig the pump will sound like its at full load and not much power. Anyone know if this has a presure relief valve orsome other help. Been trying to get a servive manual on the loader but no luck yet. It has a ford tag on the tower that says ford series 19-388 and serial #CB12134 Can anyone help Thanks

Hard to tell what your problem is but 19-388 is a Ford 750-Series 10
foot backhoe attachment. You can find the parts breakdown at
Messicks, see link. Service manual for the the 750 backhoe and 420
tractor are available on Ebay (other places as well most likely).

I'm not that familiar with the 420 but it looks like it may have the hydraulic tank above the radiator with a drop in filter like my 4500. If that is the case I may have the answer
for you.

Hi I found out my hoe is a 750 . My fluid is in the frontend loader frame and in a resovoir tank on the left side. still don't know whats going on but am still searching Thanks for your help Lee

(quoted from post at 16:29:47 09/27/18) Where is the filter located? This is sounding more familiar.
orry for the delay Way too many things breaking down at the same time. I know this sounds crazy but there is no external filter on this . Heres what is realy strange The front end loader which runs of the same pump works fine No lose of power. Now in working the hoe a little more I fined i have power to the sweval- the reach- but lose of power to the down presure and the hoe itself I think maybe a have a line restrection to this one valve I have to do a preasure test on that line to check and see what i have Thanks again for your time Lee
