1970 Ford 5000 PS adjustment question

Got the new hose installed and no leaks anywhere, just need to adjust....I hope.

Just did this so haven't had time to troubleshoot yet but here's what I got:

With the wheels centered, turning to the right is difficult/not power assisted.
With the wheels centered, turning to the left is easy/power assisted and almost goes on its own, at a certain point, to lock left.

It would seem that - I don't know how to explain it - the assist fluid is going great in one direction and not so great in the other

Make sense?

When I disassembled the cylinder, I blew out all the lines and orifices with air so hopefully that would eliminate any blockages and allow fluid to flow freely in both directions.(or whatever not sure what to call it).

Thanks for any help. Too rainy outside now to get it out and run it.

I hope you haven't reinstalled the radiator yet.
I sounds like you haven't gone thru the adjustment procedure to get the control valve working properly.

There's a very specific adjustment procedure in the repair manual. Here's how I do it.

Hey Bern, thanks for the heads up.
I did reinstall the radiator, but it wasn't a big deal to remove it and perform the adjustment. I just filled it with water for the time being, so nothing lost there.

I did get a replacement hose as was described by you and I think Bob in another earlier post. A little under $50.

As they say about a chain only being as strong as its weakest link, I think the same can be said for hydraulic lines. At first nothing was leaking but after a few minutes of toying with the adjustment, and after the pressure built up, the cylinder began leaking from the spool valve. So I'll be removing that again and checking my "handy work."

But on the positive side, I do have power steering -- sort of . :D

Back at it on Wednesday.

Just an update on the power steering project.
I removed the cylinder and disassembled the spool valve since that was where the leak was coming from. Turns out that I pinched one of the O-rings when I re-insert the valve into the body.

I replaced that and "carefully" replaced the valve into the body. Reassembled everything, crossed my fingers, said a prayer and fired her up.

Now I have power steering. And no leaks.

Thank you to all who helped. This is a great resource.
