Identify 971

Hi there-

I am refurbing (not restoring) a what I thought was a Ford 901...based on the tin. However, in the course of cleaning off the gunk/build up I discovered my first tractor is a 971. Yippie! If memory serves me
correctly the Serial # is 91939?

My question is "how do I determine what year this is"?

Thank you!

Also, this tractor has a big ugly (but usable loader). Was this tractor designed for such a loader?

971: 9 is High clearance row-crop with 172 cu in engine, 7 is Select-O-Speed transmission with single speed PTO, 1 is series built 1958 - 1962. This site has a serial number chart, Resources tab, Research & Info, Serial Numbers, Ford, 601, 701, 801 and 901. Your number is a 1959. Hard to tell about loader without knowing model or seeing a picture. Generally agricultural models aren't optimal for really heavy loaders, that's why they have industrial models with heavier frames and front axle.

Hi Andy-

I sincerely appreciate the help! I'll check out the details in "Research & Info"...hopefully I can get a picture uploaded on here over the weekend to show you. I'd really like to remove it and stick the blade for moving snow come winter.

Again, I do appreciate the input!

Have a great weekend...

Nick

If your serial number is 91939, that makes it a late production 1959. The range of serial numbers for 1959 began with 58312 and concluded with 105942.

Narrow front row crop tractors are significantly more maneuverable in tight quarters making them an excellent loader tractor. They will have a diminished capacity compared to industrial models but are ideal for mucking stalls.
