where is my oil leaking from? Ford 3600

Hi and thank you for your time.

Ford 3600 (unsure the year)

can't find the source of the leak.

the visible apparent leaking spot is out of the front right side of the top of the oil pan which I did have off before the problem started.

Thus the immediate conclusion the gasket to the oil pan was needing replaced. Which i did. 3 times. The first with a gasket maker, then i bought the actual gasket on line (twice) and still the problem continues.

Where it appears the leak is happening at the front right of the oil pan ... just above that is also some oil splatter and my opinion the only other possible source of the leak as gravity would suggest, it can only fall down.

If I hadn't replaced the gasket so many times with such an effort to the detail, I would still think that is where the problem is because that was what i was f-ing with before the problem came to be.

You can't see very well just what is going on above the oil pan in that area so its really hard to tell but i will offer this as a clue which I am thinking somebody will hear it and recognize right off my problem.

When I put oil into the tractor ... the leak happens as the oil is falling down towards the oil pan. I have not only checked but redone the gasket where the oil is initially poured in to: where the gear is at (sorry don't know the correct language/ term to call it).

Now the oil comes out at a faster rate when it is poured into the tractor than when the tractor is running.

If I didn't think it sounded so crazy I would say that it seems like there is hole in the tractor just above the oil pan but below where the gears are visible through the place where you pour the oil into the tractor.

I don't want to have to take all the stuff off that would have to come off .. in order to see the area ... unless I absolutely am forced.

again thanks in advance for your time and knowledge.

Cheers.

2 possibilities that I can think of.
1- there's a round plate that bolts onto the timing gear cover right next to the oil fill, it allows access to the injection pump gear.
If the cover is loose or it gasket is messed up there could be a leak there.
2 - There are two gaskets sandwiched between the timing gear cover, block plate and block at both front corners of the oil pan, if ether of the gaskets had torn loose or the corner of the alunimum timing gear cover has been cracked/broken you'll get a leak in that area.

Clean the front of the engine as best you can, then pour a little oil in, shine a light in around the front bolster area and see if you can spot where it's coming from.

To get a better look at the right side look across from the left side.

I had an odd oil leak problem recently on a Ford 600 that I finally traced to a break in the line from the oil pressure gauge to its sender. The line is *inside* a protective tube. The oil was leaking from the
inner line and emerging from both ends of the protective tube. Took me a while to figure out the two different sources led back to a common leak!

Welcome to the forum! Here's a tip that might help. Spray the
oil off with brake cleaner. You don't have to get it spotless, but
as clean as you can. When the brake cleaner dries, it looks dry.
Any new oil leaks will look wet. Check is as soon as possible.

thanks again for the help. And thanks for the welcome.

I know or am pretty sure it isn't #1, I lacked the terminology to express but I did redo the gasket on that.

#2 - how do i access those gaskets? Do I have to take off the front of the tractor?

I'm going out to look at it now and see if i can see what you're talking about.

Cheers!
