Need to identify my engine

Hi all : how can I exactly ID my Ford 172 engine for year ect. so I can order the correct parts the first time... thx

You need to give us your block number off the right side and your casting date on the left side near the pan. Blockk numbers are big, casting dates are small. Soapstone helps with the small numbers.

Probably need to tear it down first. I have seen a little bit of everything done to these old engines. What the numbers say on the outside does not necessarily mean that is what you will find on the inside, unless you know 100% for sure it hasn't been into before. I rebuilt one some time back that had been rebuilt 4 times previously and had broken 2 crankshafts and still hadn't damaged the block. I personally never order parts before disassembly and careful inspection.

Part numbers cast into lower right side engine block:
EAE 6015 - 134 1953-1957
EAF 6015 - 172 1953-1957

310905 - 134 1958-1959
310609 - 172 1958-1959

B9NN-6015C - 134 late 1959 early 1960
B9NN-6015A - 144D late 1959 early 1960
B9NN6015J - 172 late 1959 early 1960
B9NN6015B - 172D late 1959 early 1960

C0NN-6015G - 134 sleeveless late 1962-1964
C0NN-6015H - 144D late 1960-1964
C0NN-6015C - 172D-G late 1960-1964
C0NN-6015J - 172 late 1960-1964

WM gave sage advice to tear down before ordering parts.
