Ford 641 broken axle???

If i start tractor put it in gear and look in oil fill for the diff i can see the ring and pinion going around. I shut the tractor off and
jack up the left side and spin the wheel i can see the ring and pinion going around. I jack up the right side and spin the wheel nothing is
turning in there. Is it a broken right axle? Could something be broke in the diff? How bad is it to change an axle? Where can i find one?
Would a used one with the bearing and retainer already on it be ok?

This all started from a couple days ago when i was using the loader and heard aloud pop and i stopped moving. Trans was moving and tractor wasnt.

It could have shucked the splines on either the axle or gear number 18. Will have to R&R for final verification.

I might have the back half of the tractor if you need it. I'm located in NJ. Best to stay local when dealing with that kind of weight. Check your serial number. I remember a spline change, I think it was about 58K or somewhere around there.

I put an 801 rearend on my 641 awhile back and really like it. Gear ratio is lower. To do that swap you need the entire rear housing, gears and axles from the 801. Spline count on the coupler was in 56 or 57 I think. My 641 is a 1957 and had the fine splined coupler and shafts.

Took it apart axle is sheared off. Now how am i going to get that broken piece out of the diff. without taking more things apart??? Anybody have a axle? Its a 16 spline

Many years ago I worked in a repair shop and we had a home made electromagnet on a broomstick. Hooked it to a car battery and pushed it into the housing.

Now how am i going to get that broken piece out of the diff.

Magnet on a stick is a good idea.

I have never been inside a 600 differential but I'm wondering if you could reach it by removing the PTO shaft?

If you do have to remove the trumpet, take the left one off for full access to the differential. Doesn't require a rocket surgeon to do. With a cherry picker, you could unbolt the trumpet at the diff housing and remove the whole assembly.

I used a cherry picker when I worked on mine to take trumpets off. Good time to look at bearings and see why axle brake. If the inner bearing is gone it will allow sagging and stress things.

Take a Long stick of 3/16 gas welding rod turn your stick welder to a 180 amps or more hold the rod on the end of the axle stub and turn the welder on until the rod sticks to the end of the axle. I have done this many times it works make sure to rod only touches the axle stub when turning the welder on.
